Wilco @ Keyspan Park, Brooklyn 7/13/09 (pics, videos, setlist)

I first have to give a shout out to Jess for hooking up the tickets to this one. I dunno if I would've motivated for this one without her, but as I enjoyed some fried clam strips at Nathan's post-show I was very glad she got me out to Coney Island on a Monday evening.
It wasn't just the fried seafood that kicked ass up and down Surf Avenue last night. On a beautiful Brooklyn night this lukeward Wilco fan was converted. The show built from the start and just got better and better. I admit to not knowing all the songs, but by the end was jamming along to them all. I enjoy the band's latest release, but seeing them live I realize the record doesn't do them justice. I'd hated on some of Nels Cline's guitar weirdness in posts past, but he was high energy awesome last night. Jeff Tweedy seemed in good spirits throughout the night. Smiles were aplenty and his stage banter was good humored and even complimentary, at one point pumping everyone's tires with a, "this is one of the best looking crowds I've seen," line. Maybe he says that to all the crowds, but I dare say he might have been right. Eye candy was aplenty throughout the night. Who would've guessed?
It was the music that carried the day though as the band built 2+ hours of one heckuva show up to a crescendo that included guest appearances by Leslie Feist, Ed Droste (of Grizzly Bear), and Yo La Tengo. It was a great show. I can't believe it took me so long to get to one. Count me converted. These guys rock.
