The White Stripes Officially Call It Quits

Sad news for all us White Stripes fans, but not altogether surprising. Today it is official; The White Stripes are no more. The band released the following statement:

“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.”
Kind of a cool way to go out. My memories of the '03 Aragon show will last forever. Great show. My only regret is that it was be the only time I saw The White Stripes live.

What are your favorite White Stripes memories? Leave us a comment.

A few tracks from their 7/24/07 MSG show that never get old.

1. Dead Leaves and The Dirty Ground
2. When I Hear My Name
3. Jolene
4. Hotel Yorba

Happy Genius Heroes Radio 1/27/11

I've been working to make past shows accessible to folks who can't get up for our 7AM EST start since I started this radio show thing. I'd hit a number of roadblocks in achieving this, but today I finally got a postable recording of the show. It's not without its hiccups and listening to one's self can be somewhat disturbing (Is that REALLY what I sound like?) but anyway stick with the recording of the full hour. There are some good tunes in there. You can right click "Save As" to download the file and listen to the show when and where you would like or stream it from here.

Windy City Winter Ball: Feb. 5 @ Double Door

This looks like fun. Being hailed as, "a formal rock and roll winter blowout," the 3rd annual Windy City Winter Ball will be at the Double Door on Feb. 5th. I can't get to Chicago for it, but I wanted to pass it along to any of our readers that might be in town that weekend. The Detroit Cobras will be headlining and I've been digging Rambos who are also playing (the remind me of Dead Confederate). Get your formal wear out, get some tickets, and get to the Double Door Feb. 5th.

The Detroit Cobras - Right Around The Corner

Good Listens: Curtis Evans 'Life With The Buffalo'

We always love new music here at HGH. Sometimes it takes us awhile to find time to digest new material. I have to admit it has taken me some time to sit down and listen to this album, but I was intrigued by the fact that Curtis Evans is a hometown Chicago product and his full length debut, Life With The Buffalo, was released on Grape Juice Records just days before my birthday last year...and the fact that The Chicago Reader described Evans as "frighteningly talented...like if Hank Williams had tried a little of what Nick Cave's been drinking." That was enough to get me interested.

...And the album doesn't disappoint. Check it out yourself. I have a couple tracks here to sample and you can listen to the full album over at Curtis' bandcamp page. Evans also has recorded a Daytrotter session. Be sure to keep an eye for it. Happy listening and let me know what you think.
