Lollapalooza 2009 Day 3: Sunday Pictures (Alberta Cross, Ra Ra Riot, Passion Pit, and more)

Buckingham Fountain
After rain Friday and hotness Saturday it was another scorcher in Grant Park for Lollapalooza's Sunday Performances.

KZ was there and grabbed a bunch of good pics for those of us who weren't able to make it. Her photos from Day 3 BELOW.

As KZ said:

"Overall, a great weekend! I'm sad it's over. It's the same every year....so much anticipation and excitement and then the weekend flies by in a blur. But at least we have the pics..."

Thanks for sharing with the rest of us KZ.

Alberta Cross @ Brooklyn Bowl 8/5/09 (VIDEOS)

Alberta Cross - ATX from Jim Longstreet on Vimeo.

Alberta Cross played a free show last night at Brooklyn Bowl. They sprinkled in some tunes from their previously released EP, The Thief and The Heartbreaker, while featuring a number of tracks from their upcoming full length debut, Broken Side of Time. It was an impressive show as I think most in the crowd shared the sense that we were watching a band that was truly on its way.

Keep an eye out for the new album in Sept. and in the meantime check out more videos from last night below.

Alberta Cross - "Old Man Chicago"

Alberta Cross - "The Thief and The Heartbreaker"

Alberta Cross - "Low Man"

Free Concerts: New York Edition - Alberta Cross, Grace Potter, Yeasayer

Alberta Cross

Free shows seem to be happening all around us particularly during the summer months. I've been to some this summer, but I always seem to miss more than I make. I'm going to try to work on that by getting to three shows by bands that are on my must-see list. If you are in or around NY in the next week get involved. We're always looking for fellow concert goers.

Tonight, Wed. Aug. 5 - Alberta Cross @ Brooklyn Bowl 8PM

We've pumped this band on HGH before, and they've got somewhat of a revamped lineup. Never seen them live. Eager to do so in anticipation of a full length debut LP Broken Side of Time to be released Sept. 22nd.

Friday Aug. 7 - Grace Potter & The Nocturnals @ Prospect Park Bandshell

What can I say she's a RHOTW
. Never seen her perform live. It's free and as free shows go I've been impressed with was impressed with the set up at Prospect Park in the past.

Thur. Aug. 13 - Yeasayer @ Pier 54 (Hudson River Park)

Really been digging on their tune from the Dark Was The Night compilation "Tightrope" and most of their debut record, All Hour Cymbals. Looking forward to seeing them in person.

A little sampler of the bands above:

Alberta Cross - Leave Us Or Forgive Us
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Watching You
Yeasayer - Tightrope

Hope to see you out at some of these.

There are many more free options in NY this week, but these are the three I'm most looking forward to. Anybody else have any they're planning to attend?

-JL

Alberta Cross and Dead Confederate Live Sessions at HearYa

Two bands that we've had a chance to plug on these blog pages, Alberta Cross and Dead Confederate, recently recorded live sessions with the guys from HearYa.

I've been listening to Alberta Cross' 2007 EP The Thief and The Heartbreaker in pretty heavy rotation since Riley got it for me for this past Xmas. The EP might only include 7 tracks, but there's no slugs in there. Each song is catchy as hell. They've added some members to the band and based on the HearYa session seem to have some new material ready for a full length debut.

Here they are playing bocce at Union Hall in Brooklyn.
If you listen to any of our recommendations check these guys out and go get their EP, The Thief & the Heartbreaker and go check out the live session over at HearYa.
Another band that we've been jamming on here at HGH, Dead Confederate, also has a session over at HearYa. I had a chance to watch them perform in NY (read about it) and these guys put on a keeeck ace show and have a new CD that's worth picking up. Go get Wrecking Ball and check out their HearYa live session. Don't make me have to tell you again. Happy listening.
