Flogging Molly @ Hammerstein Ballroom 2/15/09

I gotta thank my boy Sandy for hooking up the tickets to this show at the last minute. He delivered the package and we got hooked up with some sick seats in the 1st level box to the left of the stage. $100 seats. Comped. That was only the start of what would be a sick night...

I'll admit I got owned by the subway today and joined Sandis a little late for the pre-gaming, but after he put in 2+ hours at the Penn Station Houlihan's waiting for me we got involved a bit at Twins (I think) on 9th Ave and 34th before we headed to the show. At 8:30 we still had to wait to get inside, but were quickly led to some of the best seats I've had for a show like this (or any show for that matter). My ticket literally read, "Box 1, Row 1 Seat 1". We were set up at eye level with the band, above the melee of the GA crowd and about 50 feet from the stage.
We were thrilled to find out that we also had waitress service, but not so thrilled that they A) didn't take credit cards B) the in-house ATM had no cash C) wouldn't let me run to the bank across the street. So, our partying was limited, but that didn't take away from us enjoying the hell out of this show.
I'd almost forgotten how good a show Flogging Molly puts on since I saw them a few years ago back in Chicago. They brought it tonight. It was a great show. Enjoy the vids and pics below. I'm spent.

The Black Keys @ Terminal 5 NYC

Had the chance to catch The Black Keys last night at Terminal 5 in New York. It was the second of two sold out shows they played there this weekend and the band did not disappoint. For a two man band these guys get after it. They've come a long way from their days working on a landscaping crew together. Continue reading for some more pics of the show and of The Heartless Bastards, who opened (sadly we missed Lucero who also performed).

The Heartless Bastards (above). I had never heard these guys before but they were solid and got the crowd good and worked up before the Keys came on. I like that female lead. Impressive pipes on her.

I haven't been able to track down a setlist, but I remember Strange Times, Psychotic Girl, and my favorite, I Got Mine. Anybody remember others or have a full setlist?

Kings of Leon @ MSG 1/29/09

Had the chance to catch the Followill brothers bring down the house at MSG last week. Sick show. I probably kicked over as many beers as I ended up drinking. While that sucks for my pocketbook, it is a sign of the amount of booty shaking I was doing as well. I'll take that trade. Also as a personal first, it was at this show that I first drank beer from a straw. Not sure about that one, but it does minimize the spillage. Good times.

My Morning Jacket 12/31/08 @ MSG

My Morning Jacket at Madison Square Garden for New Year's Eve. We had this one booked and circled on the calendar since last summer. Our anticipation and excitement was rewarded with an awesome performance by the gang from Louisville.

MMJ - One Big Holiday 12/31/08
(you may need to login to google to hear stream this. We're still learning. feedback welcome.)

"Have a lot of fun, make a lot of love, spread a lot of joy. It's 2009!"

We had fun with the 'black tie' theme the band recommended for the occasion (although we were out shopping the day before the show). I can honestly say that I've never had more fun in formal wear and as the band played for 3+ hours I felt like I got my money's worth ($5.50 @ Salvation Army)out of my double breasted white sport coat.

It was a great night and one I have trouble putting into words so I've attached a few link to let others enjoy the night.
