Rodrigo y Gabriela @ the Riviera, Chicago, IL 10/16/09 (Review + Video) w/ Rob Trujillo

The mexican duo graced Chicago last Friday and I went to represent HGH. Since I first got my hands on their self-titled album I've been patiently waiting my chance to see them perform live. Then I heard about this show and their latest recording, '11:11', and my mouth was watering. I knew as good as their recordings were there was an element missing that would come through in a live setting. Guitar work like theirs is just that more amazing in person. Fast, clean, and precise these two rocked out. They played with a little more grit than they show on their albums and I was loving it. Great to see their metal background show. Which reminds me that to top things off they brought out bassist Robert Trujillo (Metallica, Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne's Band) for a hand full of songs. Man was that exciting.

I had goosebumps the entire show. I wasn't able to keep a setlist but they definitely played lots of hits. Tamacun, Buster Voodoo, Santo Domingo, 11:11, Diablo Rojo, really almost everything off their albums. They closed the night with Stairway to Heaven. Best money I ever spent seeing this show. I have lots of videos, just working on getting them uploaded. I'll be sure to share when they are up, until then I found these on youtubers.
