Christopher Denny @ Duke's 4/3/09 Chi, IL (pictures & videos)

If you haven't heard Christopher Denny's voice you're in for a treat. You couldn't ask for a better setting than Duke's Hideaway to experience it live (LIVE MUSIC & COLD BEER). It'd be like having the kid over in your living room. Everyone in the band, Chris Denny, Graham Wilkinson, PJ from Cincinnati, traded off taking the mic and guitars. The show was more like a group of friends drinkin', jammin' and having a good time at a bar compared to the structure of most concerts. It was fly by the seat of your pants between songs, but once they were playin' it was no joke.

Chris played his fan favorite 'Time' along with some of his other tracks like 'Westbound Train' off his album 'Age Old Hunger.' Chris even came out and did a great version of 'Dead Flowers'...which might have even replaced Townes Van Zandt's version as my favorite. The whole crew was a great bunch.

I had the chance to talk to Chris briefly over a beer and he told tales of 'workin the corners' with his guitar in Chicago for months down by Wellington and Sheridan, near a Walgreens. Then how while on the road going through Amarillo (not by morning) they hit a snow storm, slid on some ice, jack knifed the trailer, and crashed the van...he said, 'man we almost died'. Well we sure are glad they didn't. The kid loved his whiskey and smoked more cigarettes than any man should in a week. Give Chris Denny a listen, keep the kid off the corner and at least in the bar - buy his album.

David Byrne Added To 'Dark Was The Night' Lineup

OK I'm getting even more excited for this one. The lineup keeps improving. David Byrne being added isn't a real surprise. Feist kind of let that one out of the bag with a posting on her own site, but the confirm is still sweet. Anybody want to join me at the show May 3rd? Still got an extra ticket.

Thank you Susan once again for the pics. We had a blast last week...maybe too much fun. 630-10 all you can drink and eat then the show...woo tired...not to mention DKs BDay bash the next night. It was tough going without General Longstreet though, felt like 'Goin in with one boot off' ... enjoy the pics!

The ladies of Lez Zeppelin will be in Chicago this Saturday @ the Double Door ($20). I've been debating if I am going to attend or not. I saw them put on a good show at Bonnaroo last summer, then a few months later I checked em out again in Boston. They absolutley killed it. Cover bands like this are few and far between, hell if you can't get the real thing it beats the cd. Their sound is spot on to Zeppelin. This music is meant to be heard live, and we thank Lez Zep for doing what they do, and looking good. (future RHOTW?)

Rocker Hottie Of The Week - Leslie Feist

In keeping up the Dark Was the Night excitement theme, this week's RHOTW is Leslie Feist of Feist and Broken Social Scene. Ms. Feist was beamed into our living rooms with the usage of her solo act, Feist's tune "1,2,3,4" in an ipod commercial in 2007. The song is catchy as hell. It may have sold a lot of ipod nanos, and it definitely helped propel Feist's 2007 release The Reminder to gold status (over a million albums sold) in the U.S. All that and she's not bad to look at either.
